Working at 1700 degrees F with a torch and Italian glass rods,
Natalie
intricately works glass until it is molten. Using a variety
of colours, shapes and decorative designs, each bead is created
with her own
individual flair. When the beads are cooled and annealed,
Natalie uses them to create unique wearable art.
Natalie was born in Newmarket, Ontario in 1979. As a young
woman, she spent a few years in British Columbia and later
returned to Ontario to enroll in a Public Relations Program
at Durham College. Upon completion of her diploma in 2001,
her love and passion for life in the mountains called her
back to British Columbia. It was here that her life-long aspiration
to become an artist was realized.
Ryan and Pat Bavin of Bavin Glassworks took Natalie under
their wings as a glassblowing apprentice in 2001. The instruction
provided by her mentors opened the doors to lampworking only
a year later. Natalie started her own business, Ruby Designs,
where she currently works from her
home studio in Invermere, British Columbia.
Today, Natalie’s work is displayed at various art galleries
throughout British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario. She continues
to excel with not only her bead making, but also in the glassblowing
studio. Natalie remains keen to create innovative designs,
gaining ideas and expertise through attendance in courses
at Red Deer College and various workshops with
successful glass artists.
